YEAR 10 FOUNDATION → HIGHER

Year 10 Foundation → Higher Transition Programme

Being placed on Foundation tier in Year 10 caps your child's ceiling at Grade 5. If they're capable of more — and most students on the Foundation-Higher borderline are — Year 10 is the window to build the Higher-tier foundations early, and give the school reason to move them up before Year 11.

Common questions

Will the school actually move them up?

Not automatically — but a Year 10 student demonstrating consistent competence on Higher-tier questions gives the maths department real evidence to reconsider tier. We've had students moved up mid-Year 11.

Maths only or Science too?

Both are available. Maths is where the Foundation-Higher decision is most consequential.
